A loan of $1,800 helped a member to purchase sweets.

Esperanza Group's story

The communal bank "Esperanza" will begin its first first loan cycle with Pro Mujer. As part of the "Centro Focal de Villa Exaltación" [Focal Center of Exaltation Village], the group is comprised of 6 members and is directed by a board headed by President Sefani. The businesses that members of the association carry forward are varied, including the following: Selling sweets and pastries, making meat pies and pastries, selling sandwiches, selling shoes, selling various items, and selling sports equipment.

The loan that they will receive will benefit small micro-businessness of which Sefani is a part. She indicates that this is the first time she has worked with Kiva-partner Pro Mujer, entering upon the invitation of a counselor from the institution who went to her house to visit her. Currently she has a business selling sweets. She learned the business on her own initiative using savings that she had from her family.

The loan that she will get is for increasing capital (the purchase of sweets) that she will acquire in the markets of the city El Alto and will later sell from her stall. This form of work helps her generate income in order to maintain as much as possible her home since she is married and has three kids.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the loans.
