A loan of $1,650 helped a member to pay for plowing, farm inputs, seeds, and sundry equipment.

Djiguisseme 5 Group's story

The ten members of the group "Benkadi 6" are married women, who average 41 years of age and four children each, all living in traditional families in KAMPOGOSSO, a village in Commune de Kimparana, in Cercle de SAN (4th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their fifth loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.

The crop grown is peanuts, as is the case with FATOUMATA DRISSA, who is the first one standing from the left and wearing a bright green scarf in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase some farm inputs, seeds, and sundry equipment and to pay the cost of plowing to maintain 1.5 hectares.

After the harvest, the produce will be sold to men and women customers in the village and in San. She plans on making a profit of 170,500 francs CFA at the end of planting. This profit will enable her to repay her loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.

In this group: Aissa Drissa, Fatoumata Drissa, Sarata, Djeneba Issa, Mamine Oumar, Gniri, Sitan Alou, Tefigne, Mariam Issouf, Tacho
