A loan of $1,350 helped to buy agricultural supplies for growing coffee.

Maria Esperanza's story

María is 43 years old and has primary education up to third grade. She is a mother of 2 children who live with and are dependent on her and her husband. From when she was very young, her parents taught her how to work the land since they come from a family with a tradition of farming and specifically growing coffee. Her son is 20 years old and is studying in third grade of secondary school. Her daughter is 15 years old and is in the second year of general high school. The family are only involved in farming activities such as clearing, applying fertiliser and picking the harvest. The land which they cultivate was inherited from her parents and is 4 kilometres from their house, a journey which they make on foot.

María has asked COMIXMUL for a loan which she can spend on supplies for her coffee production. She hopes to prevent the crops being damaged by rust, one of the types of fungus which can cause the crop to be ruined.

Her dream is to be able to buy more land for growing coffee so that she can have a better income and more profit for her family and improve their standard of living, as well as giving her children a better education and enabling them to graduate from university.
