A loan of $3,725 helped a member to buy wool.

Vicuñitas De Mercedes Group's story

The community association "Mercedes' little vicuñas" will initiate its seventh cycle with the organization Pro Mujer, as part of the Waterfall Focal Point project. The group is composed of 9 members and is led by a board of directors, with Martha serving as the president. The businesses belonging to the members of the community association are diverse and among them there are: braiding rugs, the sale of beds, the sale of rugs, the sale of sweaters, the sale of sausage, the sale of vicuña wool rugs, the sale of fruit, and the sale of tennis shoes.

The requested loan will benefit these small microenterprises, including Martha's, who is a member. She told us that she joined Pro Mujer 5 years ago after being invited by a friend who is a member of the institution. Today she has a business selling rugs. She told us that she started this business over 20 years ago when she learned the skill of weaving.

The loan she is seeking today will be used to increase her capital (by buying wool) through acquisitions from businesses primarily in the city of El Alto and later through the creation and sale of items for her salesroom. This type of work allows her to generate earnings to maintain her home as much as possible. In addition, she is married and has three children.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer she responded that she likes the trainings, the loans, and the health services.
