Phloeun is a rice grower from Battambang province’s Thmor Koul district, which is where her residential area is. She is 52 years old and blessed with eight children. Currently, only two kids still rely on her, as they are in school. The entire household mainly depends on three hectares of rice farming. Phloeun and her husband also work for others for a fee, for extra income. Phloeun has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before. Now, she is seeking a new loan in order to buy potash, fragrant rice seed, and gasoline for a hand-tractor. She hopes that she can make more income so that she can set aside some money for any needs in the future.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
