In the Villa Exaltación neighborhood of the city of El Alto, there is a center located there with the same name and to it belongs the “Generación 2006” Association. It is a very friendly group who, along with their credit advisor, works with Pro-Mujer with a lot of enthusiasm and desire to improve their businesses. The majority of the women is married and has children of different ages. They tell us that their daily household expenses are increasing all the time and the income they have is not sufficient enough to cover minimum necessities.

This group works principally making handcrafted chocolates. They sell chocolate bars for breakfast, bon bons and chocolates that are cream-filled among others. The group is requesting additional credit to acquire raw materials to increase production and to purchase better quality packaging that their clients will like.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
