Maria Mercedes
Maria, 20, lives in the city of Ica, in the district of Santiago, with her husband and small son. She loves them very much and they are the main motivation in her life. Maria is a very kind, hard-working, enthusiastic person who makes every effort, together with her husband, to provide for the family. Unfortunately, because of a lack of economic resources and due to the need to work, Maria was unable to get a nursing degree as she would have liked. In her free time she enjoys watching television and sometimes makes delicious pork cracklings to share with the family.

On her own initiative and with much hard work and dedication, Maria works as a hired hand on a farm in her city. She carries out jobs such as harvesting, planting, irrigation and other tasks. She works around eight hours a day, every day, and believes things are going well for her because of her dedication and kindness to others.

Maria is very grateful to Kiva lenders because, thanks to their help, she will be able to renovate her home. She wants to buy construction materials to put up a fence in the backyard and also put down a concrete floor inside the house. This will give Maria's family more security and well-being, and will allow her to continue working and striving toward her goal of having a small patch of land where she can grow pecans to sell.
