Shamim is 46 years old and a vigorous married woman living in the area of Lahore, Pakistan. She belongs to a poor family, and her family is passing their lives in miserable condition due to their lack of sources of income.

Her husband does work selling cloth. He purchases cloth from other cities at cheap rates and sells it to established markets of Lahore city. Her husband has been doing the same practice for eight years. Now, with the growth of his family, he wants to grow his business also.

Shamim requested a loan from Kiva's field partner BRAC Pakistan so that her husband could buy a variety of cloth in large quantities, and through the profit she may change the present condition of her family.

She wants to see a change in the condition of her family, the education of her children, and the business of her husband. She seems happy after taking this loan and thankful to BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
