A loan of $400 helped to buy more washing machines to offer better service.

Jairo Andres's story

Jairo, who is 20 years old, lives in the beautiful city of Barranquilla, in the Atlantic department, which is known nationally as "The Sandy." He is a young single man. He has a service business of renting washing machines, which he offers to neighbors in his neighborhood and in surrounding neighborhoods. The customers rent the washing machines from Jairo by the hour. They call him by telephone asking for the service. He takes the washing machines to their houses, and after the agreed-upon rental time has passed, he goes to pick them up. The payment for these services is in cash. He offers this service to his customers every day, from 7 in the morning to 7 at night. The expenses of the business are only for maintenance and buying parts. His business was born a year ago due to the need to generate income because of the death of his grandmother, who was the one who contributed mostly to the family expenses. This is his first Kiva loan with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, and he will use it to buy more washing machines, to offer better service with regard to the time for repairs and to new customers who request the service. With this investment he hopes to increase his income and profits and in the future to have his own house and family.
