A loan of $1,275 helped a member to buy farm inputs, seeds, and pay plowing costs for this growing season.

Benkadi 3 Group's story

The members of the group called Benkadi 3 are married women with an average age of 40 and on average seven children, all of them living in polygamous families in Pangnala, one of the villages of Bougouni, third administrative region of Mali.

They collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to succeed in their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their fourth loan with the institution, the preceding loans having been correctly reimbursed.

Chata, standing in the middle of the photo, cultivates rice. With her loan, she intends to buy farm inputs, seeds, and pay plowing fees to cultivate one hectare of land.

Her produce is sold in the village, in Garalo, after the harvest to a clientele composed of men and women. She expects to make a profit of 95,000 F CFA each season. The profit will allow her to repay the loan and also to help her husband with the daily expenses.
