A loan of $1,000 helped a member to buy ingredients and seeds and to pay for the labor for an agricultural crop.

Danaya 5 Group's story

The members of the DANAYA 5 group are married women who are on average 39 years old, have four children, and live in polygamous families in Bladiè, a village in Bougouni, the third administrative region of Mali. They are working with microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to see through their agricultural businesses in the rainy season. They are on their tenth loan with the institution, and their previous loans were properly repaid. The grown crops are peanuts and rice with BINTOU TAHIROU, standing in the middle of the photo. With her loan, she plans to buy ingredients and seeds and to pay for the labor to make use of .75 hectares. The crops are sold in the village in Garalo, after the harvest to a clientele composed of men and women. She plans to earn 45,000 FCFA per crop. These earnings will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with the daily expenses.
