A loan of $1,700 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and clothing to sell.

Jovanny Janeth's story

The communal bank "Jardín De La Artesanía" ["Handicrafts Garden"] meets every fifteen days in the canton of Montecristi, known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its handicrafts, which are recognized on the national and international levels. It is the home of the famous hats made out of paja toquilla fibers.

In this place lives Jovanny, who is 52 years old. She is married, and from this relationship she has four children, which are already adults. The youngest of them still lives with her. Her husband is retired.

Jovanny is a teacher in a local school, but realizing that her salary often does not cover her expenses, she also dedicates herself to commerce. She sells clothing of all types as well as Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women's accessories). She works every day, since she sells at the educational center where she works, and during evenings and weekends she goes around in the area where she lives. She offers her products on credit and collects payments every eight days. She has done this work for five years, and it has allowed her to earn a little extra.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and clothing. She has been in the communal bank for three years, and she likes it because the loans are of great help in her life.

Her dream is to have a boutique.
