Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $900 helped to buy cloth and thread to produce handcrafted bags.

Elvira's story

Elvira is a 38-year-old, hard-working woman. She has four children but only lives with two of them in her home. She owns a home at the entrance to her neighborhood. She wishes to open a country leisure center in this area, but lacks work capital. “With time, I will save enough money to be able to make my dream a reality,” she affirms.

Elvira works in handicrafts. Every weekend and on holidays, she receives many tourists that visit her area and buy the handicrafts that she produces. Furthermore, she sells therapeutic drinks with native plants which are effective for some diseases. She is known for these drinks, and not only receives visits from tourists, but also from the inhabitants of the different cities.

This is her first loan from Kiva, and she is thankful for the financial support that she is receiving to continue forward. Furthermore, she promises to make her payments punctually. Elvira will invest the 2500 Nuevo Soles in the purchase of cloth and thread for the production of her handcrafted bags.
