Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $500 helped to purchase increased amounts of butter, sugar, flour, and oil.

Doris's story

Doris sells doughnuts in Sekai (near Cape Coast). She has been educated until the end of junior high school. She is married and has five children. Her husband is currently unemployed.

Doris has been working in this enterprise for 16 years now. As the sole provider in the family, she is responsible for paying the family's utility bills and their children's school fees.

Her loan will be used to purchase increased amounts of butter, sugar, flour, and oil. She hopes to use the new profits from her business to grow her doughnut enterprise and to increase her capital base. In the long run, she wants to expand her business into neighboring villages.
