A loan of $1,100 helped to buy farmland.

Maruja's story

Maruja is a 30-year-old single woman who does not have any children and lives with her sister in an adobe house. Maruja's business focus is agriculture in farmland that she acquired when she was very young, where she only grows coffee. She has been working as a farmer for almost seven years and has always had her parents' support, although sometimes she contracts local workers to carry out more complicated tasks. She likes to work in the fields since it allows her to have very good economic profits and continue on. Before the rainy season begins, she would like to be able to have the capital necessary to acquire plants and maintain her farmland in good condition. This is her first Kiva loan, and she appreciates the financial support that she receives in order to improve her work activity. In addition, she is committed to paying her monthly payments on time. This time, she would like to be able to acquire 3000 nuevos soles ($1100) in order to buy a small piece of farmland where she will plant more coffee plants.
