A loan of $900 helped to buy firewood and yam seedlings.

Sophie Lum's story

She is a widow with 5 children and they all live in a three-bedroom apartment in Bamenda, North West Region of Cameroon. She has faced same challenges in life, among which are inadequate finances to start up a business, the death of her father, and the repatriation of her son from abroad. With this loan, she plans to invest by buying firewood and part of the loan will be invested in farming by buying yam seedlings. She will also use the rest to pay workers who will clear her farm and split her firewood. She believes the business will succeed because she has been doing it for a long time, has regular customers, and has fertile land to cultivate her yam seedlings. The community will benefit because there will be no scarcity of firewood around and the community will have enough food.

With the profit from this loan, she will cater to her family's needs, ensure her children's education, and she will build her house. She prefers GHAPE loans because of low interest rates, convenient repayment intervals, and also the members are trained on marketing and management skills before the loans are disbursed.
