Safiatou's Group's story

This group is made up of women who are very determined in their money-earning businesses. They've been part of the Banc Villageois program for a long time, and managed to develop a spirit of solidarity, which nowadays enables them to cope with many situations. Their main business is retail.

Mrs. Safiatou (sitting on the right and raising her hand in the photograph) is the group's featured borrower. She's 50 years old, married, and the mother of three boys and one girl. Her business consists in selling peanut pasta and palm oil, that she buys in 20-liter cans at the international market of her subregion.

She resells by the liter for XOF 1'100 (ca US$ 2.2) for the palm oil, and XOF 750 (ca US$ 1.5) for the peanut pasta. With this loan, she intends to buy 2 to 3 cans of palm oil, and 1 or 2 buckets of peanut pasta.

The profits generated by her business will enable her to better support her children in their studies.
