Mrs. Affi A., 53, is a widow who is raising 4 children. She was born in Lomé, grew up there, and lives there at present. She is a well-respected woman who is fighting to raise her children appropriately and assure an adequate education for them. She manages to do this thanks to the business of selling lengths of African print cloth (pagnes) and cosmetics which she has been pursuing since 1995.

Mrs. A. buys her merchandise wholesale in the big open-air market in Lomé and resells it in her neighborhood. The competitive prices of her products attract customers. She lowers her profit margin and sells larger quantities. This procedure has allowed her to continually grow her business capital. Thus she is presently requesting her second loan.
