Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,275 helped a member to pay for plowing fees and labor costs, and to buy potash and insecticide for her crops.

Poy's Group's story

Poy, 33, is a local farmer who grows rice and cassava as her main sources of income. She is married and has four dependent kids, who are in school. She has three hectares of cassava farmland and one hectare of rainy season paddy, which she has farmed for five years, and which have earned her about 40,000 KHR per day. Poy has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for four cycles. After the past successful loan, which she has completely repaid, she feels confident that she can relieve her family’s burdens better than before. Poy is now forming a group of three to take out a new loan from VisionFund. She and one of her fellow group members are seeking 2,000,000 KHR each, while the remaining borrower is applying for 1,000,000 KHR. As the group leader, she will spend her loan portion to pay for plowing fees and labor costs, and to buy potash and insecticide for her two cash-crops. She confidently expects good yields, so that she can keep her kids in school until the tertiary level.
