A loan of $4,725 helped a member to buy used clothing.

Mujeres Luchadoras (Cuenca) Group's story

The communal bank "Mujeres Luchadoras" is comprised of 11 women entrepreneurs who are seeking better opportunities to get ahead. They live in the city of Cuenca, a beautiful place with many tourist attractions and a varied gastronomy. One of the members, Laura, has been in the group for six years and has established a good friendship with all her neighbors and friends. She likes the fact that all the members of the group are united and much like a family. Laura, 73, is married and has eight independent children who are all married. She rents the house she lives in and her husband is a mechanic who works only a few hours because of his age. For 31 years Laura has been selling used American clothing. She sells on weekends at all the markets in the city. She plans to use the new loan to buy used clothing. Her goal is to stay healthy so she can keep working.
