A loan of $725 helped to rent a piece of farm land.

Alejandra's story

Alejandra, 50, is married and has 3 children who live in a home made out of wood. Alejandra is a farmer, working 2 hectares of land that she has planted with products that she considers profitable in her region like organic cacao, coffee and other things. She started her work some time ago, alongside her husband, so that they can have some stability and give their children the best.

In order to keep their plantations in good condition, they have to weed constantly, as well as applying organic compost. When harvest time comes they contract some day laborers to pick the ripe fruits in less time and later they dry them so they can sell them to the buyers in their region who give them a price according to the quality of the product. Throughout their years of experience the only inconvenience has been the attack of pests that threaten the growth of their plants and therefore their earnings.

This is their first loan with Kiva, and they are grateful for the financial support that they received so that they can move forward. They promise to make their payments on time. On this occasion they received 2,000 nuevos soles to rent a piece of farm land and grow organic cacao.
