A loan of $1,075 helped to buy mattresses, irons, blenders, sheets, etc.

Gladys Georgina's story

The “La Pila” communal bank meets every two weeks in La Pila in Montecristi canton. This place is very well-known in the province and in the country for its rich traditional culture. A vast variety of crafts manufactured by the residents using traditional methods can be found here.

Gladys, 52, lives here. She’s married and has four children, three adults and an 18-year-old girl still living with them. Her husband is a merchant.

Gladys is a very good housewife who also spends time in commerce. She sells items for the home (blenders, irons, and mattresses, among other things). Her method of selling is by installment booklets and by a cumulative system. She works three days a week in all her activities since she has to sell products, deliver them and collect payment every fifteen days. The products are delivered according to the number each customer has been assigned from one to ten. She’s been working in this activity for five years which makes it possible for her to earn income for her expenses.

This loan is to buy mattresses, irons, blenders and sheets, among other things. She’s been in the communal bank five years and likes it because she started her business with her first loan. She’d like to have a locale or a distributorship of these products.
