A loan of $575 helped a member to buy farm inputs and agricultural seed.

Benkadi 3 Group's story

The members of the Benkadi 3 group are married women. On average, they are 43 years old and have five children. They all live in polygamous families in Tibina, one of the villages in Sikasso (the 3rd administrative region of Mali).

The women collaborate with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to maintain their farming activities over the rainy season. This is their ninth loan with the institution and all their previous loans have been repaid in full.

Mariyama, pictured standing in the middle, grows maize. With her loan, she is planning to buy farm inputs and agricultural seed to cultivate one hectare.

After harvest, the produce is sold at the market in the village to both men and women customers.

Mariyama is hoping to make 100 000 CFA francs per campaign. This money will help her to pay off the loan and help her husband with day-to-day expenses.

In this group: Mamou, Salimata, Mariyama, Waraba, Matenin
