Benkadi 1 Group's story

The members of this group called BENKADI 1 are married women with an average age of 37 and on average, four children, and they all live in polygamous families in Tibina, one of the villages of Sikasso, third administrative region of Mali. They collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso so as to succeed in their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their ninth loan with the institution; the preceding loans have been correctly reimbursed. Maize is the crop cultivated by Mme Mariam, standing second from left to right. With her loan she intends to buy farm inputs and seeds to plant and maintain one hectare of land. The produce is sold in the village, at the marketplace, after the harvest, to a clientele composed of men and women. She expects to make a profit of 105,000 francs CFA for the season. This profit will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with daily expenses.
