Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $250 helped to buy spare parts for her motorbike.

Martha's story

Martha lives in Mariakani, Kenya. She is a business lady, a wife and a mother of four. All her children attend school. Martha has had previous loans with Milango, all of which she paid back without any difficulty. She is in motorcycle transport, the business she has done for the last four years. She has employed two people who help her run the business and she says that her husband is a help sometimes when she is facing a challenge. The challenges that she faces includes competition from other operators when it becomes difficult to get customers.

Martha learned about Milango through friends and since she wanted a way of attracting credit she joined. She now seeks a loan to help her buy spare parts and repair one of her motorbikes that is broken down. The extra income that she raises from the loan will help her pay school fees for her children.
