A loan of $1,700 helped a member to buy farm inputs and seeds.

Benkadi 2 Group's story

The members of Benkadi 2 Group are men averaging 45 years of age and five children. They all live in polygamous families in Kolokoba, one of the villages of Sikasso, third administrative region of Mali.

They work with Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, in order to carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are seeking their sixth loan from the MFI. Previous loans were repaid without problems.

Mr. Lamissa (standing in the middle in the photograph) is growing corn. With his loan, he intends to buy farm inputs and seeds to maintain one hectare. After the harvest, the production is sold at the market in the village, to a clientele comprising both men and women.

He intends to turn an average profit of XOF 185'000 (ca US$ 370) per planting. This profit will enable him to repay the loan and cover the daily expenses of his family.
