A loan of $250 helped to buy supplies.

Rosa Matilde's story

Rosa has been a member of the "Damas Responsables" loan group for seven years, during which time she has become good friends with other group members. Together their mutual goal is to improve their income and move forward with their families. Rosa lives in the area surrounding Cuenca, a city with natural and architectural beauty. It has been a World Heritage Site since December 1999 and the city's food pleases the palate of all who visit. Rosa is 45 years old, married and has five children, aged 23, 24, 17, 10 and 4 years old. The two eldest work and support the household financially. Rosa's third daughter is in high school, while the youngest two are in one of the city's primary schools. Rosa's husband is an employee with a private business. The family lives in their own house. Rosa has had a grocery shop for fifteen years, working seven days a week with no fixed timetable. She also sells fast food and make-up. Rosa will invest her loan in buying supplies for her shop and thus will continue to expand it. Rosa's dream is to have no debts and to have her own capital.
