Benkan V Group's story

The 10 members of the group called BENKAN V are married women with an average age of 45 and on average, seven children. They all live in polygamous families in Falan, one of the villages of SANANKOROBA, second administrative region of Mali.

They collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso so as to engage in their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their eighth loan with the institution, the preceding loans having been correctly reimbursed.

For Kiatou, the first person sitting from left to right in the photo, the cultivated crop is peanuts. With her loan, she intends to buy farm inputs and seed and to pay the plowing expenses for one half hectare of land.

Her harvest is sold in the village, at the market, after the harvest to a clientele composed of resellers and consumers. She expects to make a profit of 80,000 F CFA per season. This profit will allow her to pay back her loan and also to help her husband with daily expenses.
