A loan of $1,100 helped a member to pay labour wages and buy agricultural inputs and seeds.

Benkan Iv Group's story

The 10 members of the Benkan IV group are married women with an average age of 35 and, on average, 6 children, who all live in polygamous families in Falan, one of the villages of Sanankoroba, the 2nd administrative region of Mali. They are working with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. This is their 8th loan from the institution. The previous loans have been properly repaid.

Kiatou, standing on the left in the picture, grows millet. She plans to use her loan to buy agricultural inputs and seeds, and to pay the labourers needed for the cultivation of 1 hectare of farmland. After the harvest, the produce will be sold at the village market to a clientèle made up of resellers and consumers. She expects to have made a profit of 125 000 francs per crop cycle. This profit will enable her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with the daily living expenses.

In this group: Kiatou, Kadia, Malladon, Adiaratou, Fatoumata, Niele, Sata, Rokia, Aby, Sira
