Benkadi Viii Group's story

The ten members of Benkadi VIII Group are married women who average 45 years of age and seven children. They all live in polygamous families in Komo, a village in Baguineda, second administrative region of Mali.

The work with Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, in order to carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. They are seeking their fifth loan from the MFI, and previous loans were repaid without problems.

Ramatou (fifth women from the left in the standing row) is growing millet. With her loan, she intends to buy farm inputs and seeds, and pay for plowing to maintain 0.5 hectare.

After the harvest, the production is sold at the market in the village, to a clientele comprising resellers and consumers. She intends to turn a profit of XOF 90'000 (ca US$ 180) per planting.

This profit will enable her to repay the loan and also help her husband cover the daily expenses.
