A loan of $500 helped to buy a solar home system to provide light in her home.

Eugenia Maria's story

Eugenia is 48 years old and lives in a rural community located in the municipality of Chinandega. She currently works as an assistant in the community health center. She has worked there for 25 years bicycling the seven kilometers to the center everyday. She lives with her parents, one brother and two nephews (Ruddy, 19 and Axell, 5) have more support than just that of Eugenia.

Eugenia has lived in this community, where there is no electricity, her whole life. In order to light up the house at night, they use candles and battery-powered light bulbs. Her hope is to have a solar panel to light her house and have for emergency situations at night. With this loan she will get a 100 watt solar home system.

"When my brother died we had to spend a lot of money to rent a generator to have light during the night. At that moment we realized how sad and hard it is to not have electricity during times of emergency."
