Nenita lives with her family at Punta, Pana-on, Misamis, Occidental. She is 48 years old, married and has five children. Her husband earns income from working in the private sector while she manages their farm of fruits, bananas and vegetables. In 2008, she joined GDMPC to gain access to micro finance services and help her improve her business. Recently, she borrowed 5,000 PHP from GDMPC micro credit to buy fertilizer, such as manure. She hopes to gain a bigger harvest this cropping season in order to gain more income for the family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
