A loan of $525 helped to buy vegetables and fruits.

Mahram's story

Mahram is an older woman, 63 years of age. She is a widow. She has two grown sons and one daughter. Her sons are currently outside Tajikistan; they are migrant workers in Russia. Every month their send some money to support their mother. Mahram’s daughter lives separately with her husband. As to Mahram, she lives in her home together with her daughters-in-law and grandchildren. The grandchildren are growing, and the expenditures to cover their needs are increasing too. Even though Mahram's sons send some money, this is not enough to provide for all family needs. Therefore Mahram runs her own small business. She buys and resells fruits and vegetables. Mahram gets up early in the morning and buys vegetables or fruits at the wholesale market and then resells them at the central market of their region. She puts some of the money aside and spend the rest to buy food for her family. Her two daughters-in-law do not remain idle, either: one of them sews custom-made dresses, and the other sells homemade noodles to local cafeterias. At present it is the season to make household purchases, which is why the demand for vegetables and fruits is increasing. Therefore Mahram would like to expand her stock and earn larger revenues for her family. Mahram has applied to Arvand for a loan to stock up on various vegetables and fruits. She thanks Arvand for its financial support.
