Ruth's story

Ruth is 38 years old. She lives and works in Buchanan, the capital City of Grand Bassa County which is located by the sea. It is well known for its beaches and delicious fish. Many logging companies are also based in the city. Residents of the city love eating fufu, cassava based dough typically eaten with soup or sauce. Most people in the city are Bassa speakers, one of the indigenous languages of Liberia.

Ruth is married, she completed 7th grade and has two-year-old child who is in school, and lives at home. For the past four years she has been selling fresh fish in the local market. She started this business with a little amount of money from her husband who works with Firestone. She learned this business from her mother. She like her business because of the ways people respond to it. She spend ten hours a day with her business six day a week.

She is requesting a loan to purchase more fish for her business. She hopes to own a house one day.
