A loan of $1,000 helped to put a glass window in her cafeteria.

Saada's story

Saada has a husband and three children. Her two younger children are currently in elementary school, and her eldest is at college. She sells food and drink in her café in Mombassa, and this has been her sole source of income for four years. She employs four people in the café, and within the next five years she would like to open more outlets.

There have been challenges in running the cafe since she has been in business. The cost of electricity and travel have become very high, and also the cost of ingredients. It is difficult to keep the food prices as low as her customers would like.

Saada found out about Kiva's partner Milango through a group of friends who invited her to join so that she could also have the opportunity to get loans for her business. She has asked for a loan so that she can fit a glass window in her café. She wants to make her café look neat and attractive to help shake off the competition that is growing stiffer every day. The loan will help Saada to get her children through school. She also wants to improve the standards of living for her family.
