A loan of $400 helped to buy 8 sacks of fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide for his corn, beans and millet.

Santos Basilio's story

Santos is 40 years old, lives in a residential community far from the city, is a single father of 2 daughters as his wife died three years ago due to complications with rheumatism. He continued fighting with her and for her. He was obligated to sell the house where they lived in order to improve his wife's health.

Today he lives in a rented mud house with his family. His daughters help him with the household chores; one works in the city as a housekeeper, the younger one studies in school, she has a 30 minute walk to arrive at her destination. Previously he worked making hammocks which he then sold in the city. Today he works farming (planting beans and corn) to support his family.

In order to buy the items to plant basic grains in the nearest city, it takes him 20 minutes to get to the highway to then take a bus or a car that travels throughout the area. The bus takes 30 minutes to arrive to the city.

The loan that he seeks with Fundación Campo is to buy 8 sacks of fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide for his corn, beans and millet. With the investment, he hopes to get a better result as far as crop production as he has a lot of experience. In the future he plans to buy land where he can build his own house and fight every day to help his daughter with her basic education.
