Beatrice is a resident of Kiruhura district. She has five children who all go to school. She got married when she was 17 to a man she loved, and the parents were against it. The husband had no source of income and looking after the children became a problem. She and her husband joined hands to work in the neighbors’ banana plantations to earn a living until they managed to plant their own banana garden. That is when she got to know of Ugafode micro finance and acquired a loan of 500,000 which helped her buy another piece of land to expand their banana plantation. Unfortunately, their plantation is now affected with banana wilt disease and they are requesting a loan of 2,000,000 to buy pesticides for it. The balance will be used to clear the school fees balance. In the photograph, Beatrice is standing with her husband.

This loan is part of UGAFODE's program for clients who live in isolated rural areas with limited access to financial services. The organization believes that the risk of offering services to remote clients is outweighed by the benefits to customers and their often underserved communities.
