PUCALLPA, Peru / Butcher Shop

A loan of $1,375 helped to buy a larger quantity of meat to sell in the market.

Rocio's story

42-year-old Rocío is a single mother and has four children. She lives with her children and sister in her own home.

Rocío's business is buying and selling different cuts of beef such as steak, ground beef (mince), etc. She buys her meat from cattle breeders and sells it from a stall in the town market where she serves her customers in a very friendly manner. Rocío started this business 25 years ago with her own capital, buying in small quantities. She gradually increased the amount she purchased as beef is a product that has quite a lot of demand. She considers her business to be quite profitable because of the profits she earns every day. Before she set up her business, Rocío experienced some financial difficulties because she was studying at university and her household expenses increased as a result. However, she has overcome these difficulties and continued working. She would like to continue making progress for her family's sake. On this occasion, she is requesting 3,800 soles to buy a larger quantity of beef to sell in the market.
