A loan of $1,450 helped to buy organic fertilizer and cacao plants.

Maximina's story

Maximina, age 45, is married and lives in her own house, which is made from adobe, with her four children and her husband. Maximina’s parents bought farm land when they had just moved to the area. This land is now Maximina’s property, and she has converted it into the main support for her family.

She grows cacao and organic coffee on this land. Maximina hires workers to help her keep her plants in good condition. She typically uses organic fertilizer to fertilize her land. This way she is able to sell her products at the central market. One of her main long term objectives is to buy additional land where she can, in time, grow coffee and generate more income.

This is her second loan with Kiva. She pledges to make her payments responsibly. She will use the 4,000 soles to buy seven sacks of organic fertilizer and cacao plants to replace various cacao trees that are now obsolete.
