Nelly's story

Nelly, 47, is married and has four children but only two of them still live at home with her in her own house. Every morning for the last 18 years she wakes up very happy because she likes tending to her small grocery store where she sells such things as rice, flour, coffee and sugar, among others. Nelly is very well-known in the zone because heads to the city every Saturday and Sunday to buy the products she’ll sell in her store during the week. She’s the only one in her zone that stocks her store with food items which is why she does very well in her business. As years have passed, Nelly has stocked her store with meats, sugar and rice and now wants to acquire still more products to meet the residents’ needs. She also has a natural fertilizers store where she sells to local farmers. Her husband, José, works in public transportation with the car they acquired a short time ago and earn extra income with it for their home. This is her 4th Kiva loan and she feels grateful for the financial support received; she commits to make her payments punctually. Nelly will use the money to buy food items like rice, sugar, milk and others to stock her store.
