Mamie's story

Mamie is 27 years old and married, and she lives in Gbarnga, in Liberia. Gbarnga is located in the centre of Liberia, in Bong County. The majority of people in the area are employed as farmers, cultivating crops such as rice, palm oil and cassava. Mamie has a table business, where she has been selling red oil and pepper for the past six years. She works 10 hours a day at her business. She transports her goods to her business by bus. The biggest challenge she faces in her business is too few goods on her table. She was not fortunate enough to go to school, herself, but her five-year-old child is in school. Her child lives at home. With the proceeds from the loan, she wants to buy more red oil and pepper to resell. She describes herself as a hardworking woman. She started her business with money from her mother. In the future, she wants to own a house. She is proud of her business, because she earns money every day from her business. She wants to say thanks, to the lenders who support BRAC Liberia.
