A loan of $1,025 helped a member to pay for plowing and weeding and to purchase seeds, farm inputs, and equipment.

Allakabon Iv Group's story

The ten members of the group "Allakabon IV" are married women averaging 39 years of age and seven children each, all living in traditional families in Sinsinsa Kinisso, a village in Koutiala (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work for the rainy season. They are on their eighth loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.

The crop crown is peanuts, as is the case with Setou, who is the second person standing from the right in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase farm inputs, seeds and sundry equipment and to pay for plowing to maintain 1 hectare.

After the harvest, the produce is sold to men and women customers in the village of Koutiala. She plans on making a profit of 75,000 francs CFA at the end of planting. This profit will enable her to pay back the loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.
