Marieliza Genoveva's story

The "Productivo" communal bank meets every fifteen days in Montecristi Cantón, known for its rich precolonial history and for its nationally and internationally recognized handicrafts. It's the home of the famous panama hats. Here lives Marielisa. She is 34 and has a common-law spouse with whom she has two children, 11 and 8, both of whom are in school. Her spouse works in a factory in Manta. Marielisa is a skilled homemaker who sells catalog clothing and Avon and Lebel products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and ladies' accessories), so she can make her own income. She sells door to door every day, in the mornings because that's when her kids are in school and it's easier to go out. Also, she has numerous clients who come to her house to buy products. She sells on credit and collects every weekend. She's been in business for more than five years and it's going very well. She is seeking a loan to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics, and clothing. She's been been with the communal bank since she started and she likes it for the help the loans provide. Marielisa's dreams are to have a boutique and to buy a car for selling her wares.
