A loan of $900 helped to buy ingredients, such as rice, meat and vegetables.

Maria's story

María, 57, is an admirable woman. She lives together with her three children and three grandchildren in a house she bought 20 years ago. Six years ago, María became a widow. Since then she has had difficult times, such as having to take care on her own of her handicapped daughter, who cannot walk. However, this motivates her to work harder and she does in order to get ahead with her business and improve her financial situation.

María owns a restaurant located in a square close to where she lives. There, tourists and locals visit her frequently, looking for her delicious foods. Since María comes from the countryside, she also grows corn and potatoes in large quantities. She has to rent some land because she does not own any.

This is María’s third loan with Kiva. She feels grateful for the financial help she has received. She promises to pay the installments on time. With the 2,500 soles [PEN], María will buy ingredients such as different types of meat, vegetables, condiments and some utensils for her business.
