A loan of $1,500 helped to buy fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to cultivate 21,000 square meters of yucca.

José Humberto's story

Jose is 65 years old, is married and has 5 children. He comes from a large family of 11 members, including his two parents that lived in an nearby house. When he was 10 years old he worked in agriculture on his own and also cared for someone else's animals daily, helping his family. Since his father didn't contribute to the the family much, two of his four siblings died very young due to poverty because they did not have the resources they deserved. With a lot of effort and work, when he was 15 yeas old he was able to buy a small piece of land, paying for it and hoping to build his own home to bring his family to. But, since he did not have the support of an adult he couldn't keep the land and the previous owner took it back, but his dream was to buy his own land. When he was 20 he got married and was able to buy a small piece of land with much work and effort where he has been able to share his knowledge of his work with his children. He buys his agricultural inputs in a small town that is 1 kilometer from his house. Then he travels to his home to later bring them to the land where his crops are, which is a kilometer from his home and he travels there in a cart. The loan is requested through Fundación Campo, and is to buy fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to cultivate 21,000 square meters of yucca. He expresses that he always has sufficient strength to give the same effort and work in his old age.
