Tonia

Liberia
St Paul Area, Liberia / Food Stall

A loan of $300 helped to purchase more rice, soap, tissue, oil, etc. for her business.

Tonia's story

Tonia lives and works in St. Paul. St. Paul is home to the oldest market in Liberia and is known for its fish, due to its location by the sea. St. Paul is a suburb located just outside Monrovia, past the Free-port. It is one of the poorer areas and you will often find its residents living in sub-standard housing.

Tonia is 40 years old, married with five children, whose ages range from 27 to 11. Only the 11 year-old is in school and lives at home. For the past four years, Tonia has been operating a table at the market where she sells rice, soap, tissue, oil etc. She says that sometimes business goes slowly. Tonia says she started this business by selling around in the communities with the little goods she could afford--she learned this way of selling from her friends.

She is requesting a loan to purchase more rice, soap, tissue, oil, etc. for her business. Her plans is to expand her business even more.
