Sabali Group's story

The SABALI group consists of five married women averaging 40 years of age and four children each. They live in extended traditional families with their husbands, other wives, brothers and sons in the district of MASSABLACOURA, city of Bougouni. They know one another as neighbors and friends, and through their trade activities. They sell cereals. They joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to strengthen their working capital and better run their business activities. This is their 6th loan cycle, and all previous loans were correctly repaid. MARIAM, standing first from the right in the photo, plans to use her loan to buy 1800 kg of maize from Bougouni wholesalers. She conducts her retail sales at the market and from her home, for cash or credit, to a clientele consisting mainly of women. She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 50,000FCFA, which she will use to invest in her activity and to repay her loan.
