The SABALI group consists of five married women averaging 40 years of age and four children each. They live in extended traditional families with their husbands, other wives, brothers and sons in the district of MASSABLACOURA, city of Bougouni. They know one another as neighbors and friends, and through their trade activities. They sell cereals.

They joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to strengthen their working capital and better run their business activities. This is their 6th loan cycle, and all previous loans were correctly repaid.

MARIAM, standing first from the right in the photo, plans to use her loan to buy 1800 kg of maize from Bougouni wholesalers. She conducts her retail sales at the market and from her home, for cash or credit, to a clientele consisting mainly of women.

She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 50,000FCFA, which she will use to invest in her activity and to repay her loan.
Le groupe SABALI est constitué de 5 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 40 ans et 4 enfants. Elles vivent dans des familles traditionnelles élargies avec leurs maris, coépouses, frères et fils dans le quartier MASSABLACOURA de la ville de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Pour renforcer leur capacité financière afin de mieux faire leur commerce, elles ont adhéré à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur sixième prêt. Les 5 précédents prêts ont été correctement remboursés. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de céréales à l’image de MARIAM, qui est la première femme arrêtée de la droite vers la gauche dans la photo. Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 1800 Kilos de maïs avec les grossistes de BOUGOUNI. Elle effectue ses ventes au marché et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée essentiellement de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 50.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
