Benkadi Group's story

The BENKADI group consists of six married women averaging 36 years of age and four children each. They live in extended traditional families with their husbands, other wives, brothers and sons in the district of MASSABLACOURA, city of Bougouni. They know one another as neighbors and friends, and through their trade activities. They sell apparel, second-hand clothing, etc.

They joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to strengthen their working capital and better run their business activities. This is their first loan.

FATOUMATA, standing first at the far right, buys and sells second-hand clothing. She will use her loan to buy three bales of second-hand clothing from Bamako wholesalers. She conducts her retail sales at the market and from her home, for cash or credit, to a clientele consisting mainly of women.

She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 30,000FCFA, which she will use to invest in her activity and to repay her loan.
