United Sister Group's story

Meet the members of the United Sister Group from Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of SLL 500,000 each. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more sales and consequently improve on their living conditions. Nyama is the featured leader of this group. The 35-year-old is married to a businessman and they have five children, three of whom are attending primary and secondary school. Nyama has been a businesswoman for ten years now. She sells groundnuts. With her share of this loan, she will buy a larger quantity of groundnuts to add to her current stock.
