A mother of six children from Kampong Cham province, Thy is 46 years old and one of the breadwinners in the family. Her two hectares of rice farming and one and a half hectares of cassava cropping, the business which she has had for 20 years, earns her about 23,500 KHR per day to overcome the need in her family. Thy, who has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before, is seeking the first loan of 2,000,0000 KHR in order to buy fertilizer and to pay for plowing fees. She hopes that her cassava will grow fruitfully so she can make more profits to buy additional farmland.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
